The Rooibos.
The rooibos tea (also-called red bush tea) has been established itself as one of the most popular teas worldwide. Apart from the mild and sweet taste, the reddish brown colour and the valueable minerals and vitamins there is another pecularity: the rooibos only grows in one region of the world – the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
There were many attempts in the past to cultivate rooibos in Australia, Japan, North Africa or Europe but without success.
You can find the largest cultivation territories in and around Clanwilliam where this tea originally comes from. Clanwilliam is a picturesque village in the Cedarberg Moutains, approx. 220 km north of Cape Town. This is the only place that offers ideal living conditions for this plant. The local farmers see the reason in the so-called „Koffie-Klipps“. These are reddish brown stones similar to coffee beans which are in the sandy, rough soil.
But the climate has also a significant impact on the thriving. The summer is very warm and dry, the winter, however, offers sufficient rain.
Skoon – the caviar among the teas.
Approximately 20 km away from Clanwilliam, at Nieuwoudt Pass, lies the 720 hectare large farm Jamaka. It is the sole organic citrus fruit and mango farm of the Cedarberg Mountains and is family-owned for centuries. Jannie Nieuwoudt and his German wife Katrin have been managing this farm for 12 years. Apart from the smell of orange trees, fresh mangoes and an impressive nature this farm has a proudly-cherished speciality: only here, in a mountain area, in approx. 400 to 800 metres height, you can find the wildly grown and untreated Skoon Wild Mountain Rooibos Tea. Whereas cultivated rooibos has been increasingly modified by breeding, Skoon embodies the nativeness of this wonderful tea. There has never been human interference and that will remain unchanged: the tea grows uncontrolled, without synthetic fertilizers or plant toxins (Foodstuffs generally recognized as safe, subject to DFG S-19 by Fresenius Institut in Berlin). The plants grow in full consistent with the nature what makes them one-of-a-kind.
And so, Skoon lives up to its name that comes from the language Afrikaans and means clear and beautiful.
Skoon tastes well and serves your health.
Not only the nativeness distinguishes this extraordinary Wild Mountain Rooibos Tea.
The cold air in approx. 400 to 800 metres slows down the plant growth what makes the leaves more tender and is responsible for a better and more refined quality of taste. The aroma of this tea is fruity and sweet and reminiscents of honey and caramel.
Skoon has valueable ingredients. The tea grows in a mountain area above the fog belt - here finds the tea the best conditions to gain more vitamins and nutriments than cultivated rooibos tea. Among the vitamins C and E Skoon also contains potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper. Because of its substantial portion of iron it will support the health and wellness during a pregnancy. Skoon is decaffeinated and therefore well suited to babies and children and could be enjoyed at day and night. If you wish to loose weight, Skoon may help you. Owing to its natural, non-calorie sweetness you won´t have ravenous apetite or the munchies.
Skoon enjoys the status of a traditional medicine in South Africa. It is traditionally used to heal all kinds of little aches and pains by drinking or external application. A number of previous and recent reports verify that Skoon successfully provides relief from the following diseases:
- skin diseases (acne, sunburn, mosquito bites, herpes, neurodermatitis)
- gastro-intestinal diseases (diarrhoea, occlusion, gastritis)
- anaemia
- allergies
- it helps immunocompromised people
- gingivitis
- sleep disorder
- 3-months-colic of babies
The tea possesses a high content of secondary plant substances. They absorb so-called free radicals in our organism which are increasingly produced in our body during stress and overstraining and which attack our cells.
So look for a quiet place in your stressful everyday life to do yourself a favour - and relax with a teapot full of hot Skoon.
